Less Happy Is the New More Happy

Turns out, being too happy is a bad thing. The Yale researcher behind the some of the studies compared happiness to food. Because being too happy can make you fat. Not really. {Except sort of? One of the studies in this articles says being too happy can lead to binge eating (among other things).} But like food, you should experience happiness in moderation. Emotions like sadness, anger, and anxiety help you re-evaluate and improve things. So if you are too happy, you end up in a less-than-stellar job or making bad decisions.

I might have stolen this from you, Kate.
Which is why parenting is so important. Kids serve a really important role of moderating your happiness. Just when you think they can't get any cuter, they will throw their dinner all over the floor you just cleaned (I'm looking at you Hannah. Well, except Cork was the one who had cleaned the floor. but STILL) or something equally not-awesome.  Really, your kids are just doing their best to keep you from becoming gullible, selfish, unsuccessful or even kind of racist (yikes!).
